The Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional is the mayor and most important football tournament in Honduras. It was created in 1964. The tournament's first champion was Club Deportivo Platense, being Club Real Deportivo España the most recent. 10 teams currently compose the league:

Since their foundation in August 29, 1928, Motagua, also known as "Los Mimados, Ciclon Azul, Las Aguilas, Azúl Profundo" has being consider one of the strongest teams in Honduras. They have won 12 national league titles and won one centroamerican cup without lossing a single match. The actual coach of CD Motagua is Diego "La Barbie" Vázquez and his assistant Ninrod Medina. Diego Vazquez has been considered one of the best goalkeepers that the team had in his times. On his debut with the blue jersey he saved two penalty kicks, and became the only foreign player to have won more titles with the club.
